There are many paths to Brown. Kennedy Plaza, the bus service hub, and the Providence Train Station, home to Amtrak and Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) service, are both downtown, just a short walk or taxi ride away from campus.
Transportation
Providence, RI is approximately 50 miles south of Boston, MA and is easily reachable by bus, train, or air. The Providence airport, T.F. Green, is located in Warwick, which is about 15 minutes from Brown University . Out of town conference attendees also have the option of arriving at the Providence Train Station via Amtrak or the Providence/Stoughton Commuter line from Boston, MA.
Lodging
- TBUSA has reserved a limited number of dorm rooms located on the campus of Brown University at the rate of $50 per night. The dorms are clean and come with daily linens and towels. These rooms are connected to community bathrooms and a community room that contains a refrigerator and stove that is available for use. Accessible dorm rooms for individuals with disabilities are also available. All individuals interested in registering for the dorms make sure to add within your registration information.
- TBUSA has also reserved rooms at the Wyndham Garden Providence Hotel and has a free shuttle from hotel to the campus. Please contact the Wyndham directly to make your reservations and ask for the TimeBanks conference rate. Please see link to hotel.

The Wyndham is about 1.5 miles from Brown’s conference site, and the Providence Link trolley has a stop within a few blocks of the Wyndham TBUSA has blocked out 50 rooms in this hotel at $95 (plus 13% tax). This rate is guaranteed until July 30, 2011. The hotel also provides transportation to and from T.F. Green airport (you must call to order the shuttle when you arrive at the airport). If you are taking the Bonanza Bus from Logan airport, get off at the main Providence Bus station and take a taxi.

Directions
By Plane:
- International visitors: You can either fly directly to Logan Airport in Boston, or, if your flight arrives at Newark or JFK, book a connecting flight to Providence. Bonanza Bus runs an hourly bus service between Logan Airport and Providence (see their fares and schedules page). When you arrive in Providence (Kennedy Plaza), you can catch a cab to Brown – which sits a half mile east, atop College Hill.
- Domestic visitors: Providence is a competitive destination, so you can often find good fares to T. F. Green Airport, especially if you are coming from a city served by Southwest Airlines. Otherwise, fly into Boston and take the bus as described above.
T. F. Green Airport (Warwick, just outside of Providence) has recently been expanded and renovated. Among the airlines flying into Green are:

From T. F. Green you can take the Airport Shuttle to downtown hotels or to Brown. It leaves every hour on the hour, 5AM to 11PM and costs $9. The taxi ride to Brown costs about $25, a bit more to the Comfort Inn.
By Train:
Providence is on the Boston-Washington Amtrak line. You can also take a commuter train from Boston to Providence. Trains leave from South Station in Boston, which is also the location of the Bonanza Bus terminal (see above).
By Car:
- From the north (Boston): Take route 95 south to 195 East. Get off the highway at exit 2 – Wickenden Street. At the light at the end of the exit ramp, turn left under the overpass onto Wickenden and go to the second light (Brook Street). Turn left onto Brook Street and proceed north for six blocks. Take a left onto Power Street, and after one block a right onto Thayer. The Graduate Center complex is on your left, between Power and Charlesfield Streets. To get to the Piano lounge, take the entrance to the Graduate Center closest to Charlesfield. The door to the lounge is at the bottom of the spiral staircase.
- From the south (Connecticut): Take route 95 north to 195 East. Take exit 2, and proceed as above (from “exit 2 – Wickenden Street”).
- From the east (Fall River): Take 195 west to exit 3. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Gano Street. Go four blocks north to Power Street. Take a left onto Power Street, and head west six blocks to Thayer Street. Take a right onto Thayer – the Graduate Center Complex is on your left (see directions to the Piano lounge above).
From the northwest (Springfield) – Take the Mass Pike to exit 10 (Auburn). Follow signs to Providence; take 146 south to 95 south. Take 95 to 195, and head onto Wickenden, as described above (from “exit 2 – Wickenden Street”).
